Celtic have secured one signing on Wednesday but Brendan Rodgers is now facing a transfer problem ahead of Friday’s deadline.
The Bhoys have lost a huge player in recent days with attacking midfielder Matt O’Riley joining Brighton and Hove Albion.
Celtic have though been able to complete the signing of a new left back to compete with Greg Taylor.
Barcelona’s Alex Valle has completed a loan move to Parkhead after finalising the formalities of the deal on Tuesday.
Celtic aren’t finished there though and still want more signings – but one target is looking unlikely to arrive before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Celtic face Mateusz Bogusz problem
Brendan Rodgers and co, rather unsurprisingly, want to add another playmaker after losing O’Riley.
The Bhoys have focused their attention on LAFC star Mateusz Bogusz whilst also working on a deal for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels.
However, Sky Sports now claim that Celtic are ‘unlikely’ to force through a deal for Bogus before the deadline.
It’s stated that Celtic and LAFC are ‘far apart’ on a valuation for Bogus and the Bhoys are moving on to other options.
Bogusz may be a familiar name to some having previously been on the book at Leeds United.
The 23-year-old joined Leeds from Ruch Chorzow in 2019 but only ever made three appearances for the Whites.
After loans at Logrones and Ibiza, Bogusz was snapped up by LAFC – and that move has been a masterstroke.
Bogusz has now smashed 21 goals and 15 assists in 76 games for LAFC whilst playing as an attacking midfielder, winger and even striker.
Hailed as ‘dynamic and exciting’ by LAFC’s general manager John Thorrington, Bogusz has emerged as a star in the United States – but it looks like Celtic will miss out.
Celtic eyeing other signings
The aforementioned Engels is a key target for Celtic and a potential club-record signing for the Bhoys.
The 20-year-old Belgian joined Augsburg from Club Brugge in January 2023 and has already chipped in with three goals and nine assists in 53 games for Augsburg.
Celtic have also moved for Auston Trusty but have yet to agree a deal with Sheffield United over the American centre back.
Lazio winger Gustav Isaken has also been targeted but the Dane doesn’t appear to be interested in a move to Glasgow.
Celtic are clearly active in the market right now and will hope to have signings locked down by the time the window slams shut.
