Report: Chelsea expected to sell £70m duo in January with Manchester United keeping a close eye on proceedings

Chelsea might be in action in the Premier League today but that doesn’t mean things are any less quiet when it comes to their plans in the transfer market.

The Blues were once again active over the summer as a number of big signings such as Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, and Jadon Sancho were among a number of new players brought in by Enzo Maresca.

So far, Maresca has been vilified in his decisions as the Blues look to be improving by the week.

But as is always the case with Chelsea recently, those incomings mean certain players have to leave.

And approaching January, it looks like a couple more of Chelsea’s signings from recent years could be on the way out.

Chelsea could sell Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Chelsea are expected to be pretty quiet in January but at the same time, there are plans for certain players to go.

The report states that Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka are the two most likely to leave.

Chelsea paid around £70m to sign the duo in the first place, with Chilwell in particular costing big money at around £50m back in the summer of 2020.

Under Maresca, the duo have not featured as much as they’ve have liked and with FFP and other financial matters at play, Chelsea could look to cash in.

Manchester United are looking closely at Chilwell as they continue to look to the market to potentially replace Luke Shaw.

Chelsea will be busy for the immediate future

It seems to be the way the club is operating right now and it looks like the Blues are once again going to be busy in January and beyond.

Selling Chilwell and Chukwuemeka might not sit too well with some Blues fans but if they are no in Maresca’s plans, then they should simply be moved on.

Chelsea have stockpiled a huge number of players recently and eventually, those players are going to either want out or be told they’re going.

Chilwell and Chukwuemeka, then, will likely already have their agents on the case.
