Report: How Ange Postecoglou sees Dominic Solanke working with Richarlison at Tottenham
????
Ange Postecoglou has just been handed his most expensive signing at Tottenham after Dominic Solanke arrived from Bournemouth.
Spurs opted to spend £55m on the England international – with a further £10m possibly following in potential bonus payments – after he scored 19 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season.
Many have wondered how Dominic Solanke fits into Ange Postecoglou‘s attack at Tottenham with the likes of Richarlison and Heung-min Son already in N17.
Now, some insight has been provided which suggests two of those strikers will not play together…
Dominic Solanke and Richarlison may not play together
A story from the Mirror (print version, page 79, Sunday 11th August) states that Postecoglou sees Solanke as the ideal competitor for Richarlison.
This would suggest that the Australian is not initially planning to use his £55m recruit alongside the Brazil international in attack – despite the fact they could both function together.
Richarlison made four appearances on the left flank last season – with 24 of his outings coming in the centre – while Solanke made all 38 of his appearances as a central striker.
Therefore, the South American could play off the 26-year-old from the left, although it sounds as if Postecoglou may prefer to use Son in that area with his new £55m man leading the line, presumably with Dejan Kulusevski or Timo Werner providing the width on the opposite flank.
Ange Postecoglou can repeat Harry Kane and Heung-min Son dynamic
Solanke is a physical striker, one Spurs have lacked since selling Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.
The 6ft 1in frontman is excellent at holding the ball up and pinning defenders, while his awareness also seems to be very sharp – just take a look at this phenomenal strike from last season, in which he displays a superb sense of where the space is.

With these traits, Solanke can become something of a Kane 2.0 in N17, combining with Son by reading the South Korean’s movement, pinning defenders to win flick ons for the Tottenham No.7 while also finishing off chances created by his strike partner.

It remains to be seen exactly how Postecoglou uses the man from Basingstoke, although we believe him and Son would be a much better fit than Richarlison and Solanke, who may end up occupying similar areas if played alongside each other.
