Report: Liverpool really like 6ft 3in defender who plays just like prime Rio Ferdinand

Martin Zubimendi is not the only player Liverpool appreciate and want to sign this summer.

Arne Slot hasn’t made a single signing since replacing Jurgen Klopp as the new Reds head coach. That is definitely a surprise at this stage of the window, but things could change soon.

The new Premier League season is just a few days away, and Liverpool are keen to bolster their squad before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.

All eyes are on Zubimendi, but Liverpool are interested in signing a new central defender too.

Liverpool like Wolfsburg star Maxence Lacroix

Liverpool could do with reinforcements in the heart of their defence.

The Reds let Joel Matip leave the club at the end of his contract in July, while Virgil van Dijk isn’t getting any younger and has entered the final year of his deal.

Slot should be looking to sign a new centre-back in this window, and Liverpool have been linked with a number of names over the last few months.

GiveMeSport have now revealed two Reds targets.

One of them is Antonio Silva of Benfica. The Portuguese defender is a huge talent, and he has been on Liverpool’s radar for a long time.

The other is Wolfsburg star Maxence Lacroix.

The report claims that Liverpool really appreciate the French defender, who has been very impressive in Germany over the last few years.

Lacroix, still only 24, has been compared to prime Rio Ferdinand by the Bundesliga’s official website, and he has all the characteristics to succeed in the Premier League.

What makes him affordable in this window is the fact that Lacroix has entered the final year of his contract. If Wolfsburg don’t sell him now, they could lose him for free in 2025.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will take advantage of the situation in the coming weeks.

Lacroix is faster than many Liverpool stars

Lacroix has a lot of tremendous attributes.

The defender is good on the ball, strong in tackles and thanks to his 6ft 3in height, he’s solid in the air too. However, his most impressive trait is his pace.

Lacroix is Wolfsburg’s fastest player having clocked a top speed of 34.5 kmph (SpeedsDB). That is incredibly quick for a player who is as tall as he is.

To put that speed into perspective, Lacroix is faster than Liverpool stars like Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah among others.

Slot is expected to play a high line at Liverpool, and Lacroix’s pace would make him a great fit in this Reds side if they can get him.
