Report shares if Everton have made 'Breakthrough' in transfer talks for attacker

Everton have yet to make a breakthrough in their push to sign Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (16 July) that while the Toffees have opened talks with the Whites for the Italian winger’s signature, they are yet to come closer to agreeing a deal with Daniel Farke’s side.

Negotiations are continuing between the two parties, but a move to Goodison Park isn’t imminent for the 20-year-old despite reports suggesting he is “keen” on becoming part of Sean Dyche’s side this summer [Fabrizo Romano, 16 July].

Will Wilfried Gnonto exit Leeds United amid Everton transfer speculation?

Dyche and Kevin Thelwell will know that the Toffees simply have to sign another winger before the Premier League season gets underway, as they are incredibly short of options at this stage of the summer.

Although Ashley Young can deputise in an advanced role if required, the only genuine wingers in Everton’s ranks currently are Jack Harrison and Dwight McNeil following the departures of Lewis Dobbin and Arnaut Danjuma.

Gnonto would add a different dimension to the Blues attack with his direct style and pace, but Leeds don’t have to sell the Italian international and that could make negotiations difficult between the two clubs.

If Everton truly want to get this deal over the line, they are going to have to match Leeds’ asking price and it remains to be seen whether or not they’re willing to do that.

They will have money to spend once Amadou Onana’s move to Aston Villa is confirmed, but they may well decide to invest elsewhere instead of pursuing a deal for the Italian international.

Hopefully, a breakthrough can be made in talks sooner rather than later. Dyche won’t want to miss out on yet another attacking target having already lost the race for Jaden Philogene this summer.
