Rangers wanted their games against Tottenham and Celtic out of the way before Patrick Stewart started in his role as CEO, according to The Herald.
The Light Blues announced on Monday [25 November] morning that Stewart will take office as the club’s new CEO on 16 December, leaving fans confused about the unusual start date.
However, this is not without reason as the newspaper reported via their website on 25 November that the Ibrox outfit want the Chief Executive to start fresh after two of their biggest games of the season so far.
Rangers reason for Patrick Stewart start date revealed
The week commencing 8 December will be one of the biggest of the season for Rangers. They begin with a Scottish Premiership trip to Ross County.
It will then be followed by a UEFA Europa League clash with Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham at Ibrox on 12 December. Three days later, they lock horns with Celtic in the League Cup final at Hampden.
Philippe Clement is clinging onto his job in Govan for now [Daily Record], but it is hard to see the Belgian tactician surviving in case of poor results in those games.
In that way, it makes sense for Stewart to start his job after that on 16 December. It is very much possible that he is already involved in behind-the-scenes discussions.
The Gers, meanwhile, are also expected to have a new permanent chairman in place, having been without one since John Bennett stepped down.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have been torn to shreds after what this player did against Dundee United on Saturday, 23 November.
