Romano shares Vicario injury news at Tottenham amid surgery update

Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has undergone surgery for an ankle fracture, Fabrizio Romano has said.

Viacrio has been a mainstay in the Spurs side and his shot-stopping ability matched with his level of distribution has been key under Ange Postecgolou.

His absence will be a huge miss following an ankle surgery, with Romano taking to X (25 November) to post an update.

Romano provided an update on his X account stating: “Bad news for Spurs as Guglielmo Vicario has today undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle.”

The Italian has cemented his place in the Spurs XI under Postecglou even though his form has been a little patchy at times season.

Still, Vicario has conceded just 13 goals in 12 Premier League appearances so far this season, keeping three clean sheets in the process and his absence will leave a hole in Spurs’ starting XI.

His likely replacement will be Fraser Forster, who has showcased his ability as a reliable deputy although he lacks when it comes to distribution.

Tottenham had been linked with a move for Lucas Chevalier earlier in the month (TBR Football) and those rumours may ramp up with the recent update.

Under Postecgolgou, Tottenham have demonstrated their ability to play the ball out from the back and Vicario has played a huge role in that.

However, with Forster seemingly set to step up in his absence, the focus may have to change.

While no timeframe has been set for his return, Spurs will likely have to deal with this absence for ane extended period of time.
