Rangers defender James Tavernier could still leave Ibrox in the coming days and join a Turkish side amid Trabzonspor links, according to the Scottish Sun.
The news outlet reported on 2 September that the Turkish side tried signing him in the summer but did not reach an agreement.
The Gers bosses are understood to be open to cashing in on the 32-year-old right-back.
Rangers must not sell James Tavernier before the January transfer window
Selling Tavernier in the summer, when there was an opportunity to reinvest in the squad, might have made strategic sense for Gers, especially given his age and the potential to refresh the team with new talent or experience.
However, as of now, with the transfer window closed until January, letting Tavernier go would leave Rangers in a precarious position without a direct replacement.
His departure would not only create a gap in the squad’s dynamics but also in leadership, given his role as captain.
Without the ability to sign a new right-back or a player of similar stature until January, the Ibrox outfit would be forced to either promote from within or reshuffle their defensive lineup, potentially weakening their backline.
Therefore, if the club are considering Tavernier’s exit, it would be prudent to have a replacement lined up for January at the very least, ensuring continuity and maintaining team strength.
