Report: The reason Ange Postecoglou will currently not give Djed Spence a chance in Tottenham's first-team

Djed Spence has had a frustrating time at Tottenham Hotspur.

The North Londoners are having a terrible season. They have won just once in their last seven games and are currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

A number of Ange Postecoglou’s players have failed to hit the required standards this campaign. It just hasn’t been good enough and things have to change.

We’re sure every Tottenham player is disappointed with how things have been recently. Spence may just be the most frustrated of them all.

Why Ange Postecoglou will not give chances to Djed Spence at Tottenham

Tottenham signed Djed Spence from Nottingham Forest in a £20 million deal in 2022.

Spurs beat a lot of clubs for the talented defender’s signature, but Antonio Conte decided very quickly that he did not want him in his side.

Spence’s Tottenham career looked like it was over in the summer after he was loaned out to Genoa last season. But, after the Italian giants couldn’t sign him permanently, he showed his class in a Spurs shirt.

In pre-season before the start of the campaign, Spence really impressed Tottenham coaches with his performances, and that convinced Postecoglou to keep him at the club.

Tottenham even gave Spence a new contract, and that suggested to many that he would get opportunities with the first team this season.

However, the young full-back is yet to start a game for Tottenham this term, and things are not expected to change because of how poorly they have begun the campaign.

GiveMeSport claim that Spurs ‘will not entertain handing the former England under-21 international the opportunity to make himself one of the first names on the team sheet as risks cannot be taken while they are adrift of the European qualification places’.

The latest on Spence’s future at Tottenham

It is clear as day that Spence has no future at Tottenham.

Pedro Porro is the undisputed number-one right-back at Spurs, while young Archie Gray has also been deployed there even though it’s not his natural position.

Spence has been overlooked several times already, and GMS claim that he is now a ‘subject of enquiries’ for a potential transfer in January.

A number of clubs are expected to test Spurs’ resolve in the winter window, but the report claims that ‘Tottenham are forcing interested parties to play the waiting game’ because they are not ready to make a final decision just yet.

It’s always difficult to predict what Daniel Levy will do, but we think Spence should seriously push for a move away as staying at Spurs and not playing is really hurting him.
