Report: Two clubs eye late moves to sign £30m West Ham player

West Ham are looking to complete several sales in the final days of the transfer window and one player in particular has attracted interest.

The Hammers have enjoyed an emphatic summer of business with nine players added to Julen Lopetegui’s squad.

West Ham are still in the market for more additions if opportunities arise, but their focus is now on trimming the squad and lowering their wage bill.

As many as nine players could leave West Ham before Friday’s deadline to help fund any other moves the club might make.

West Ham are hopeful of signing Carlos Soler before the window closes but his arrival could depend on outgoings.

Luckily for West Ham, Nayef Aguerd is attracting interest…

Two clubs show interest in £30m West Ham player

Aguerd joined West Ham for £30million but he has failed to live up to his potential at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are now willing to part ways with Aguerd this summer after striking a £40million deal for Max Kilman and a loan deal for Jean-Clair Todibo.

According to FootMercato journalist Santi Aouna, Villarreal and Porto have made Aguerd their “number one priority”.

Atletico Madrid and several Ligue 1 clubs have tracked Aguerd but have been put off by his salary demands.

However, the report states that Villarreal and Porto are now accelerating their interest in the Morocco international.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad have also shown an interest.

An important deal for West Ham

If West Ham plan on making Soler their 10th signing of the summer, then selling a first-team player on big wages is essential.

A deal for Aguerd would make space for the 27-year-old in Lopetegui’s squad and while West Ham will unlikely recoup the £30million spent on the centre-back they will at least earn a significant fee for him.

With just two days remaining in the transfer window, it is important that West Ham get a deal over the line for Aguerd – and quickly.
