Three prolific strikers Chelsea could excite fans with as Victor Osimhen ‘opens up’ to Saudi Arabia move
One has six goals already this season!
Chelsea have been incredibly active in the transfer window, but a striker remains at the top of the club’s wishlist.
Chelsea have seemingly missed out on the signing of Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting on Wednesday afternoon that the Nigerian has “opened up” to the idea of a move to Saudia Arabian side Al-Ahli.
With previous reports suggesting that The Blues were in the race for Osimhen, Enzo Maresca will be sorely disappointed by Di Marzio’s update.
The Italian manager has been backed significantly in the summer market, with Chelsea signing Joao Felix and Pedro Neto to bolster their attacking options.
A true number nine coming to Stamford Bridge has always been a key requirement to drive Chelsea up the table though, giving the side of technically gifted footballers a true focal point.
If Osimhen is off the table, here are three alternative targets that Chelsea could target to add some real firepower to their starting 11.
Ivan Toney
Up first, perhaps not surprisingly, is Ivan Toney. Chelsea continue to be linked with Toney as the Brentford talisman is seemingly free to leave the club.
Toney has also been weighing up a move to Saudi Arabia, but remains available to Chelsea with no deal between Al-Ahli and Brentford struck, who may now be busy with Osimhen.
A move to Chelsea could be favourable for Toney’s England prospects, with his Premier League pedigree providing a level of assurance for Enzo Maresca who has plenty of unproven talents to work with.
Viktor Gyökeres
Next up is Arsenal target Viktor Gyökeres. The Swedish star has been continuously linked with a move to North London, but Chelsea should act upon their rival’s stalling and make a move for Gyökeres.
The Sporting CP man has a terrifyingly impressive goalscoring record to his name. After hitting 21 goals in the Championship with Coventry City, Gyökeres made the move to Portugal and exceeded all expectations.
29 goals in 33 appearances, along with six goals already this season, proves that Gyökeres is destined for an imminent move to an elite European club. Chelsea should take their opportunity now and snap up the Swedish goalscorer.
Benjamin Šeško
At 21, Benjamin Šeško fits the criteria of a Todd Boehly signing. Chelsea have been previously linked with Šeško, but like Gyökeres, will face competition from the top European teams if they want their man.
Even with a respectable 14 goals in 31 league appearances for RB Leipzig last season, Chelsea would be paying for the astronomical potential of the Slovenian international.
Like Toney and Gyökeres, he has the physical prowess to excel in English football. Šeško could be the true target man for Enzo Maresca’s side for the next decade and if given the opportunity, Chelsea should pull the trigger and secure the young forward.
