Report: West Ham want to sign 'world-class' £15m Celtic player but there's a problem

West Ham United are looking to press on with further signings and now have eyes on one of Celtic’s top stars.

The Hammers have already signed Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman this summer and are wanting to bring even more players in before the deadline.

Deals for striker Niclas Fullkrug and midfielder Guido Rodriguez are believed to be close.

New boss Julen Lopetegui is clearly being backed by the board and Hammers fans will be hoping for an exciting start to the season.

However, West Ham are not stopping there and could now look at making a move for one of Celtic’s top performers.

West Ham keen on Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley

According to a report from CaughtOffside, West Ham are eyeing Celtic’s Matt O’Riley, along with Premier League newcomers, Leicester.

O’Riley has had a hugely successful stint with Celtic and has attracted attention from around Europe because of his performances.

Atalanta are believed to have bid £15m for the Danish international while CaughtOffside mentions how Chelsea also like the midfielder.

However, there is an issue from the side of the Hammers and others who want O’Riley in that they’re currently unwilling to pay the £25m asking price Celtic have set.

Dubbed as being ‘world-class’ at times for his performances in green and white, Celtic obviously face a fight to keep their man.

But with such an asking price set, it will take a big offer and a commitment from someone to prize him away.

Premier League the next step for Matt O’Riley

While Celtic are a huge club and there’s never an obvious reason to force a move, the Premier League is a step up.

Of course, there is an argument to say that Celtic are a bigger club than West Ham but that’s one for the fans to get into.

But the fact the remains that the Premier League is the place to be for most players and if the right offer comes for Celtic, they will sell.

O’Riley, too, will likely get a nice pay increase by moving to someone like West Ham.
