Richard Keys cannot believe what he has read about Tottenham v Arsenal already

Richard Keys has been left shocked after it was announced that Arsenal would be unable to wear their home kit against Tottenham on Sunday (15 September).

As reported by BBC Sport (10 September), the Gunners will wear their away kit in a North London derby for the first time in 38 years.

The referees’ body Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) have deemed that the Arsenal home shirt “features too much white”.

Broadcaster Keys has reacted to the news, writing via X on Thursday (11 September), “You can not be serious….”

Arsenal to wear away kit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Sunday’s clash between Arsenal and Tottenham is now set to be a strange sight for plenty of supporters.

Fans have become accustomed to both teams wearing their home kits during the North London derby. Therefore, this decision goes against that tradition.

However, it is also clear to see why that decision has been made. Arsenal’s kit this year does feature more white than usual, especially from a side-on view.

Therefore, to avoid any confusion and consequent post-match controversy, it does feel as though this is best for all parties involved.

While it might not be in keeping with the recent history of the North London derby, ultimately, supporters will be far more concerned with the outcome of the match rather than the kits on display.

As a result, once the first whistle blows, this will all be forgotten, and everybody inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will become concerned about their team picking up three points.
