Richard Keys has praised Ange Postecoglou after he led Tottenham to a 4-3 Carabao Cup victory against Manchester United.
Despite their opponents’ attempts to get back into it with a 70th-minute Amad Diallo goal to make it 3-2, Spurs saw the game out with Son Heung-min putting the final nail in the coffin with a goal in the 88th minute.
Jonny Evans scored the final goal of the game in the 94th minute but the Lilywhites had already done enough to secure progression to the semi-finals.
A run of inconsistent form so far this season has led to plenty of questions surrounding the manager and his future at the club, although he will be hoping the noise quietens down as his side built off their 5-0 thrashing off Southampton last weekend.
Keys was keen to celebrate the North London club keeping their boss in his place through the hard time as he posted on X: “What a great night of football at Tottenham – made all the better by the absence of VAR. Spurs fans should cherish Ange and enjoy ‘what they are mate’.”
Ange Postecoglou will be hoping he’s turned a corner with Tottenham
The 59-year-old has received plenty of criticism this season for his stubbornness which has sometimes cost Spurs points for the sake of their style of play. However, their quarter-final win showed that this can work but they need to make that happen on a more consistent basis.
Although there is still work to be done at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the boss will be hoping that supporters can rally round for him as the side as they prepare to head into the second-half of the campaign.
Daniel Levy has stuck by his manager despite the criticism he has received so far although both men will be eager to show the right decision was made by the end of the term.
With the desperation for a trophy in North London, Postecoglou will be hoping his side can overcome a difficult test in Liverpool in the semi-finals which would take them a step closer to silverware and also prove a point for him and his team.
In other Tottenham news, Archie Gray was made promises to stop a transfer to Manchester City.
