'Ridiculous' - King tears into big-name Tottenham star after 'Silly' first-half incident v Brighton

Bryan King has blasted James Maddison after his involvement in a “ridiculous situation” with Joël Veltman as Tottenham lost 3-2 to Brighton at the Amex Stadium on Sunday (6 October).

The ex-Spurs scout claims the midfielder needs to stop getting himself involved in these types of incidents, having criticised him already after a similar situation this season.

Maddison went down in the penalty area in the first half, which prompted Veltman to accuse the 27-year-old of diving.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was also unimpressed by the Spurs’ star’s second-half display.

“He once again got involved with a silly situation where he thought he should have had a penalty,” King said.

“It ended up with him being lifted off the ground by Veltman. He then reacted, which left him standing in front of Veltman lying on the ground as though he’d been hit in the face.

“Ridiculous situation, he really must stop getting involved in this. He played well in the first half, he worked hard, scored a good goal, and put people under pressure.

“However, in the second half, we never saw him.”

Maddison scored in the first half at the Amex Stadium to put Spurs firmly in control. However, he was nowhere to be seen in the second, as the North London side completely collapsed.

Therefore, while he got himself on the scoresheet, it was not a day to remember for Spurs’ number 10.

He once again showed a lack of consistency, which will be of concern to Ange Postecoglou.

If he continues to perform like this, he can say goodbye to any hope of a future England call-up.
