Roma fans worried after what they have seen about Friedkin and Everton - report

Dan Friedkin has worried some Roma fans over his commitment to the Serie A club ahead of his takeover of Everton, according to La Repubblica.

The Italian publication reported on 22 June that the Friedkin Group’s £650million investment in the Premier League side could “distract” them from their stewardship of the Giallorossi.

La Repubblica also emphasised that the financial strength of the Premier League “remains irrefutable”, highlighting that, unlike the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium which is set to open in 2025, the Friedkin Group’s aim to build Roma a new ground has not come to fruition after four years.

However, a report by iNews on 18 June disclosed that Ryan Friedkin will take a “frontline role” in the Everton boardroom going forward, leaving his father Dan to concentrate on the running of Roma.

Friedkin’s track record at Roma will undoubtedly have factored into Farhad Moshiri selecting the Texan’s investment group to enter into an exclusivity period ahead of their impending takeover.

While previous bidders 777 Partners had previously agreed to a share purchase agreement (which made little progress in nine months) with the Iranian, their ownership of clubs like Vasco da Gama in Brazil raised calls for concern over their financial capability to run a Premier League club [Rodrigo Calvazzo].

Everton’s new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock helped to attract Dan Friedkin to the club.

As is stated in La Repubblica’s report though, there are no such issues for Friedkin and he is expected to get approval from both the Premier League and FA fairly quickly, with Moshiri feeling that his bid was the best to alleviate the club’s haemorrhaging debts [Sky Sports].

Owning Everton, Roma and French lower league side Cannes isn’t quite a multi-club model on the same level as the City Football Group or John Textor’s growing football empire, but could be the starting point for a strong relationship between two of England and Italy’s sleeping giants [Corriere dello Sport].

In other Everton news, the Toffees have held talks with a Champions League defender who is set to become a free agent this summer.
