Tottenham have been urged to send Timo Werner back to RB Leipzig in January.
Ange Postecoglou recently blasted the German after his lacklustre display in the 1-1 UEFA Europa League draw with Rangers at Ibrox on 12 December.
As a result, the Spurs boss is expected to axe the German for the Premier League clash with Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday [15 December].
However, as a result of an injury crisis in North London which has sparked a behind-the-scenes investigation, Postecoglou might have no choice but to continue calling on Werner, although ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still believes the forward’s loan deal should be cut short.
“As I said from day one, I never thought Werner was good enough for Tottenham,” King said.
“I never thought that he would improve the team, I think he is a very ordinary player. Therefore, if I were in Spurs’ position I would tell him to go and rebuild his career back in Germany.
“He has never been a player for me, and I will stand by what I said. I’ve run out of patience with him. I’d like to know how much he has cost the club, I’d really like to know.
“I’d move him on in January. This is another player who comes in and doesn’t look as though he enjoys his football. You can’t play him every week because he isn’t good enough. This isn’t a player who is going to take Tottenham to the next level.”
Tottenham urged to cut ties with Timo Werner in January
It looks as though Postecoglou is fed up with Werner. Therefore, there doesn’t seem much point in Spurs continuing to pay his wages until the end of the season.
As a result, sending him back to his parent club, RB Leipzig, in January makes a lot of sense on paper.
However, that might not be so straightforward to do, with Leipzig expected to need one condition met if they were to allow Werner to leave Spurs in January.
Therefore, Postecoglou might have no choice but to stick by the 28-year-old until the end of the season.
In other Tottenham news, Jamie O’Hara has named his dream replacement for Postecoglou.
