Super Eagles and AC Milan winger, Samuel Chukwueze, will not participate in Nigeria’s away game against Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi tomorrow after withdrawing from the squad, Soccernet.ng reports.
The former Villarreal man was invited to the Super Eagles camp by interim head coach, Augustine Eguavoen, despite his poor form for the Rossoneri this season, as he’s struggled to get minutes under Paulo Fonseca.
Chukwueze came on in the 62nd minute in Nigeria’s 1-0 win against Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, replacing FC Augsburg’s Frank Onyeka, but experienced discomfort as the game winded down.
Due to this, the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner didn’t travel with the rest of the Super Eagles team to Libya, as he withdrew from the team on the account of an ankle injury. Instead, he’s returned to his club side, AC Milan, to have further checks on his ankle to determine the severity of the injury.
The pacy winger will be hoping he won’t be out for too long, as that’ll further add to his woes this season after falling down the pecking order at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Chidera Ejuke, Moses Simon, and Kelechi Iheanacho are other attackers that can slot into the right winger position for the Super Eagles when needed, although it’s not their natural position.
The three-time AFCON Champions take on Libya tomorrow with kick-off time slated for 8pm WAT.
