'Sensational': Andy Townsend blown away by what 'perfect' £41m Liverpool managed to do at Wolves today

Liverpool have plenty of attacking talent in the ranks right now and one of those players produced a moment of magic at Wolves today.

The Reds are well known for having some of the best in the business in the final third and just before half-time at Molineux today, they showed that quality.

Of course, we often associate the assists at Liverpool with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz these days.

But today at Wolves, it was fellow forward Diogo Jota who produced a moment of magic to give Liverpool a lead before the break.

Jota broke brilliantly out wide on the left and delivered the perfect cross for Ibou Konate to head home.

And commenting on Jota’s assist, Andy Townsend was seriously impressed by the Portuguese star.

Diogo Jota lauded for ‘sensational’ Liverpool assist v Wolves

Speaking about the goal from Konate for Premier League Productions, Townsend paid tribute to what he called a ‘sensational’ cross from Robertson.

“A brilliant goal, again, a sensational cross. This time Diogo Jota,” Townsend said.

“Get the ball in the box and get people in there getting their head on it. The flight on it is perfect, the giant of the man Konate gets up to it.”

Jota – a £41m signing from Wolves in the first place – has often been Liverpool’s go-to man when they’ve needed a goal.

However, today, it was Jota’s turn to get the ball rolling with the assist and as Townsend says, it was a brilliant piece of wide play.

Jota better than Darwin Nunez

Liverpool have an embarrassment of riches in attack really but Diogo Jota is very much still their best striker down the middle.

Yes, he showed today how he can be a threat out wide as well but in the main, it is down the middle where he thrives.

Jota just seems to produce these moments with more regularity than Darwin Nunez and right now, that’s why he’s the man above the Uruguayan in the ranks.

Liverpool know they have a top talent on their hands in Jota and yet again, he showed his class.
