Arsenal have let some incredible players go in recent years.
The likes of Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were forced out of Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, while before that, Alexis Sanchez made a blockbuster move to Manchester United.
Of course, Sanchez’s move to Old Trafford didn’t quite go to plan, and while the Chilean’s legacy is somewhat tainted, we mustn’t forget what a talented player he was at his best.
Speaking to Mail Sport on TikTok, Callum Hudson-Odoi has been ranking and rating some of the best attackers in Premier League history, and he’s made an interesting claim about Sanchez.
Indeed, Hudson-Odoi said that he thinks Alexis Sanchez in his prime was actually better than Phil Foden.
Alexis Sanchez was better than Phil Foden
Hudson-Odoi shared his verdict on the former Arsenal star.
“Saka or Foden?” Hudson-Odoi was asked.
“Foden,” Hudson-Odoi said.
“Foden or Alexis Sanchez?” Hudson-Odoi was asked.
“Alexis Sanchez,” Hudson-Odoi said.
Alexis Sanchez compared to Phil Foden
Sanchez vs Foden is a very interesting debate.
Both players were immensely talented, and while they are similar in some ways, their roles are very different.
Sanchez was Arsenal’s main attacking outlet most of the time, hence why he scored 24 goals in a single Premier League season, and while Foden does get amongst the goals, Erling Haaland takes the spotlight on that front most of the time for Manchester City.
There is an argument to make that Sanchez was better than Foden. After all, his international record is much better and he scored more goals in what was a weaker team.
However, Foden has won more trophies with City than Sanchez did at Arsenal, but the Chilean’s trophy haul with Barcelona more than makes up for that.
That said, Foden is still only a young player, so he has plenty of time to surpass Sanchez’s overall legacy, if he hasn’t done so already.
Sanchez and Foden are certainly two of the best attacking players the history of the Premier League, and it’s hard to separate the two in terms of their ability and legacy.
