Simon Jordan: John Textor could've caused Goodison fury with 'unwise' comments

Simon Jordan has slammed John Textor for his comments about Sean Dyche as he bids to strike a takeover deal at Everton.

Speaking in his MailOnline column [18 September], former Premier League chairman and broadcaster Jordan did not hold back with his views on the American discussing Dyche’s management traits.

Textor is willing to “expedite” the sale of his shares in Jordan’s former club Crystal Palace to accelerate his bid to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s Toffees majority, with an ownership threat from Dan Friedkin resurfacing [The i, 17 September].

Jordan said of the 58-year-old: “In the case of Textor, who currently holds a share of Crystal Palace, it was maybe unwise of him to talk about Sean Dyche’s coaching acumen and would have infuriated some at Goodison Park.

“You can see he would be a very visible owner. He is being visible on the sidelines before he’s got his hands on the bloody thing!”

Everton need change but John Textor deal has its clear risks

Where Textor clearly believes he is sounding transparent and productive, Everton fans in their thousands will see a potentially destructive attitude.

It is often the case for owners and chairmen without a cultural English football background to take a hands-on approach which spreads into an involvement in the dressing room – which next to no manager is onside with – but Textor has had his feet under the table of the European game for some time.

The rallying call from the American is clearly an attempt to ignite some excitement for possible change, following a dismal start to the league season – with Everton now eliminated from the Carabao Cup to boot.

And the takeover saga is now at the point where any comments such as Textor’s will be a high point of publicity. This is exactly what he feels he may need as compatriot Friedkin – who has this week sacked Roma legend Daniele de Rossi from his post in the Italian capital – returns to the fold.

Owners who interfere with the team are widely perceived as a red flag in the English game – and it will remain to be seen whether these words are backed up should Textor strike a deal with Moshiri.

In other Everton news, Dyche could make multiple changes for the clash with Leicester City.
