Neil McCann didn’t believe that Nectarios Triantis deserved to be sent off for Hibernian despite Rangers fans slamming the decision inside Ibrox.

The Gers earned all three points against Hibs on Sunday 29 September with the 1-0 win secured thanks to goals from Tom Lawrence.

The clash could have been made easier if the Australian had been shown a red card for a questionable challenge midway through the first half.

It was clear what the Ibrox faithful thought of the challenge but, while speaking on Sky Sports Football (29 September, 12:28pm), McCann agreed with the referee’s decision.

He said: “My initial reaction is he’s low and he does get the ball but because the ball goes the other way. You can see he goes in there, he’s almost slipping.

“He wins the ball clean for me, I haven’t got a problem with that but his slip makes it look much worse. It’s not a red card. Personally, I didn’t see too much wrong with it.”

Philippe Clement’s side looks to be continuing their positive run of form with a victory on their Ibrox return, in the league, exactly what the doctor ordered.

It took a moment of magic from Lawrence to get things ticking and after a long VAR check, the Welshman was left with a smile on his face.

Supporters were only made happier when Jack Butland made a crucial penalty save on the verge of half time to maintain the one-goal advantage.

This was a tough moment for the home side but the game could have been so much different if the referee had made a different decision for Triantis’ challenge.

It has to be said that the 21-year-old did win the ball but it was the force that he used against Robin Propper which supporters took issue with.

On another day the Hibs man may have been down to ten men and the Gers could have cruised to an easier win than it turned out to be.
