Rangers will consider selling James Tavernier in the coming weeks if his value is met, according to Sky Sports.
The sports broadcaster has reported that Trabzonspor have made a bid to sign the Rangers captain, with the response from Ibrox not yet shared.
Trabzonspor have already signed two former Ibrox stars John Lundstram and Borna Barisic following the expiry of their contracts this summer, and Tavernier could be the next cab off the rank.
James Tavernier set for Rangers exit
It remains to be seen if Trabzonspor’s offer meets Philippe Clement’s valuation of his captain, but should the right bid come in from the Turkish side or any other club, it looks as if Tavernier will leave.
The right-back has been a regular for the Gers since arriving in 2015, but as Clement leads an overhaul of the squad, allowing senior figures to leave has been a major factor so far [Daily Record, 3 June].
Lundstram and Barisic are just two of five players over 30 who’ve been shown the door at Ibrox this summer, with six of the club’s seven new signings aged 22 or younger.
That’s a clear message sent from the managerial dugout, and following Clement’s recent comments that no player other than Jack Butland is unsellable, the writing is on the wall for some [The Rangers Review, 14 July].
Tavernier is certainly one of these, and should a suitable bid come in for him from Trabzonspor or elsewhere, the departing Gers captain will have Clement’s best wishes as he ushers in a new era.
