Everton have conducted some smart business that suits all parties after agreeing new terms with Tottenham if Dele Alli signs a new deal, Dan Plumley has said.

The 28-year-old is now out of contract at Goodison Park but is training with the Toffees in pre-season in the hope of earning a new deal.

Under a previous agreement, Everton would have had to fork out £10million to Spurs if Alli reached 20 appearances before what would have been the expiry of his deal in North London.

But Football London reported (14 July) that Everton won’t owe any immediate cash to Spurs if Alli agrees a new deal on Merseyside, though future payments could be due if certain criteria are met while a sell-on clause would be inserted.

Finance Expert Plumley, speaking exclusively to Goodison News, thinks it is good for everyone involved, saying: “I think it de-risks a lot of the investment doesn’t it for Everton?

“There’s no guarantee given the last few years it does work out but everyone knows there’s a player in there somewhere and he’s clearly a talented individual.

“If you can get him integrated back into the squad and not have to pay Spurs that payment and you can give him contract terms then that suits all parties it could again be a really smart bit of business.

“Not having to pay Spurs in terms of the original deal it really derisks the opportunity to bring him back in the team and if you can get him firing again there’s certainly a player in there.”

Everton make smart deal with Tottenham for Dele Alli

Alli has had well-documented injury issues in recent times and bravely opened up on the abuse and trauma he suffered as a child.

The hope for everyone is that Alli can get back to the sort of form that made him such an important England player.

And hopefully that happens with Everton because, if he can reach those levels, then boy what an asset they would have on their hands.

The new terms agreed with Tottenham sound like a solution that suits Everton, Spurs, and Alli, which can only be a good thing if he does earn a new Goodison deal.

In other Everton news, a surprise has emerged as Toffees move all but complete.
