Sources: Chelsea fear Gallagher 'big blow' after Tottenham news

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is in the box seat to decide his future as his contract runs down, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has just over 12 months left to run on his deal at Stamford Bridge.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Chelsea are “worried” about the midfielder’s future as he can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides in January 2025.

The Blues are fearful of losing Gallagher on a free transfer as they are keen to land pure profit for the academy product this summer.

Club chiefs are wary of a “big blow”, sources say, if the England international remains at the club past the end of the upcoming summer window, which opens on Friday (14 June).

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (8 June) that Tottenham are actively monitoring Gallagher’s situation at Chelsea and are expected to submit a bid imminently.

Aston Villa and Atletico Madrid have also been credited with an interest in the 24-year-old, who regularly captained Chelsea under Mauricio Pochettino.

Gallagher started 37 of a possible 38 Premier League games in the 2023-24 campaign and made 50 appearances in total, notching seven goals and nine assists.

The midfielder can boost his value with a good showing for England at this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

He will be working with another new manager at Chelsea following Enzo Maresca’s arrival earlier this month.
