Sources issue £55m Manchester United update as Everton may be 'Desperate' for sales - report

Manchester United have decided that they will not pay more than £55million for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to Give Me Sport.

The Toffees are understood to want £80million for the 21-year-old but United may look to take advantage of their financial situation.

They are looking for indications that the Merseyside outfit are desperate to cash in to raise some money quickly.

The report reads: “Manchester United have decided that the maximum they are willing to fork out for Branthwaite’s signature is £55million, according to GMS sources, and they are looking for early indications that Everton are desperate to cash in because they are not in a comfortable financial situation and may need to sell prised assets.”

Everton may be forced to sell Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United’s interest in Branthwaite and their willingness to offer up to £55million could make it challenging for the Blues to resist a deal, especially given their financial situation.

The Toffees have been found guilty of breaching profit and sustainability rules, which could necessitate the sale of key players to avoid further sanctions.

Branthwaite, who has been a standout performer for Everton this season, has attracted attention from several top clubs, including Manchester United.

His potential inclusion in the England squad for Euro 2024 suggests his value could rise further with a strong tournament performance.

This situation could make it even more difficult for the club to retain him, particularly if he is keen on a move to a club with Champions League ambitions like Manchester United who could also offer him a significant hike in wages.

Everton Jarrad Branthwaite
Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a transfer due to his strong Everton form.

Moreover, if Everton need to raise funds quickly to address their financial issues, they might find it hard to turn down a substantial offer for Branthwaite and a lot of that would hinge on what happens with the takeover.

In other Everton news, an update has emerged on the takeover with a dispute ongoing between 777 Partners and MSP Sports Capital.
