Sources share if exit-linked Everton attacker could still sign new contract - report

Sources close to Dominic Calvert-Lewin have not written off the idea he could sign a new contract at Everton, according to i News.

The outlet reported on its website on Wednesday (24 July) that it still remains unlikely the England international will put pen to paper on new terms at Goodison Park, but it could still happen in the future.

Sean Dyche’s side have not received any contact for the striker since talks with Newcastle United despite some tentative interest from both AC Milan and Chelsea which was never followed up.

Eddie Howe’s side continue to hold an interest in Calvert-Lewin, but have altered its approach to this summer’s window having confirmed the appointment of Paul Mitchell as their new director of football.

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid growing transfer speculation?

Everton need Calvert-Lewin’s future tied up sooner rather than later as it won’t help the player or the club if this situation drags on into the start of the Premier League campaign and beyond the end of the transfer window.

Either the England international wants to remain at Goodison Park beyond the end of his current deal, or he wants to depart for a new challenge. Whatever his decision, it needs to be made while the Toffees can earn a fee for his services.

There don’t seem to be many clubs queuing up to sign the 27-year-old and that could be for several reasons, but the main one appears to be the fact Dyche’s side don’t want to let him leave for a small fee.

While the interest remains tentative at best, Calvert-Lewin is not going to get that transfer that he appears to desperately want and therefore the possibility of signing a new deal remains.

However, the chance to walk away as a free agent in a year’s time and have his pick of clubs to join will be an attractive option and likely mean that no matter what happens this summer, that new deal will remain unsigned.

In other Everton news, the Toffees’ stance on a deal for Manchester City and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been shared
