Everton could dramatically increase their commercial revenue if they can host up to 30 more events at their new stadium.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Merseyside giants need to be looking to follow in Tottenham’s footsteps after they have hosted several non-matchday events in recent years.
Everton are set to make the move from Goodison Park into their new 52,888-capacity stadium for the start of next season.
It comes at a time when Premier League clubs are currently on the lookout for new ways to increase their revenue.
Tottenham have boosted their commercial revenue by hosting non-football events at their stadium in recent years, with the club now able to hold 30 events per year.
Spurs posted a commercial revenue of £227.7million in their latest accounts for 2022-23, while Everton generated £39million.
Everton could host more events to boost commercial revenue
Borson revealed hosting more events at their new stadium will help the Merseysiders improve their financial situation.
He told Football Insider: “To really move the dial, you need to do what Spurs are doing, where you are trying to have 30 event days in addition to football.
“If you can get 30, that doubles the number of event days that you are getting from the stadium.
“You are only getting 19 home games, plus you might get some cup games.
“There is also conferencing and stuff that’s going on in the stands, which will be more days a year.
“But in terms of actually using the stadium, clubs are using their stadiums for a relatively small number of events at the moment.
“Obviously, if you can double that by adding 30 more major events, which let’s say are all worth £3-5million, then clearly that is going to make a difference.”
