Stefan Borson: Liverpool could land significant boost after £31m+ reveal

Liverpool could receive a significant financial boost if they can increase the number of concerts they host at Anfield.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the rental fee for artists performing at the Premier League giants’ stadium will be relatively sizeable.

Liverpool have revealed a report by Turley Economics showed concerts held at Anfield over the past five years have helped pump £31.3million into the Merseyside economy.

Seven artists, including Taylor Swift and The Rolling Stones, have played 11 concerts at the stadium since 2019, while Dua Lipa will perform there next summer.

Liverpool have earned millions from hosting concerts

Borson suggested concerts are one way to help generate more profit as clubs continue to source new revenue streams.

He told Football Insider: “Liverpool will have got a rental fee for those concerts, so they are probably worth a couple of million pounds of profit I would think.

“Given what those concerts would have generated for the artists, I’m sure the rental fee for the stadium was pretty sizeable.

“If you think about the number of days a stadium is properly used for a club like Liverpool, you might have at best six Champions League games, 19 Premier League games and a few domestic cups.

“In the absence of events, the stadium over a 365-day year is only used for less than 30 days.

“If you can double that from 30 to 60, which is Spurs’ plan, then clearly you are going to generate quite a lot of additional revenue.

“It might not be as much as a matchday because that’s your core business, but you are going to generate quite a lot of extra stadium revenue and profit.

“But Liverpool will only be able to do it at the edges at the moment.”
