Stefan Borson: Wolves 'close to points deduction' after big development

Wolves will already know if they have breached PSR and if they face a points deduction as their deadline passed at the end of May.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Wolves are “quite close” to a potential points deduction based on his calculations.

Under current regulations, top-flight clubs are allowed to lose a maximum of £105million over a rolling three-year period before facing a points deduction.

As revealed by Football Insider, Wolves were “dangerously close” to breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules in their latest 2022-23 accounts.

They announced a net loss of £67.2million in 2022-23 but narrowly avoided a breach – however, they are understood to be close to the limit again in 2023-24.

Wolves could face points deduction after PSR deadline passes

Borson explained that Wolves will already be aware of a PSR breach and that he believes they were close to exceeding the losses.

“The interesting thing about Wolves is that actually their accounting period window finished on the 31st of May,” Borson told Football Insider’s James Murray.

“So they will already know whether they have breached or not right now, and there’s nothing they can do about it.

“I think they were quite close from the numbers that I had.

“It’s very hard to know which side they fall on and whether they had any creative ways in which they could supplement their player trading to deal with the deficit.

“On top of that, you’re only ever guessing what the wage bill looked like last year.“
