Stephen McGowan issues Philippe Clement sack verdict at Rangers after Ibrox backroom change

Philippe Clement could be sacked as Rangers manager if they lose to Celtic at Hampden Park, according to Stephen McGowan.

The Daily Mail journalist reported on 25 November that as the day after that would be when Patrick Stewart begins his role as the club CEO, he may decide to part ways with the Belgian.

It was officially announced on 25 November that Stewart would be running the show at Ibrox and it’s understood that he could face immediate goals to sack Clement.

The report reads: “Clement’s position as Rangers manager would become impossible if they lose at Hampden.

“While a start date of December 16 might disassociate the new man from guilt by association with two precarious fixtures, it won’t insulate him from the toxic fall-out if results go badly. He’d be straight in at the deep end, facing calls to axe Philippe Clement with immediate effect.

“A 1-1 draw with Dundee United on Saturday only added to the clamour for the Belgian’s removal.”

Philippe Clement has been given ample opportunity to turn around a corner at Rangers

When the Belgian first arrived at Ibrox, there was excitement as he appeared to free the team off the shackles imposed by Michael Beale.

Players appeared to be playing with new-found freedom and belief and things appeared to be picking up at Rangers.

However, the honeymoon period ended fairly quickly and since then, it’s been a struggle for Clement.

He’s been given multiple transfer windows to get the players he wants but still there is no fixed identity.

Team selection has also been questionable and whenever the team end up winning, it’s in spite of him, not because of him.

The players do not have that hunger to fight for the manager and it really is not a very professional thing to say about one of the most iconic football clubs in British history.

A change of manager and structure behind the scenes is surely needed and hopefully, Stewart can sort out the mess.

In other Rangers news, a “radical overhaul” claim has emerged after big news at Ibrox over the past few days.
