Kris Boyd suggested the Hibernian fans should “stop moaning” after Rangers announced Ibrox will be at full capacity for their Scottish Premiership clash this coming weekend.
The Gers confirmed the re-opening of the Copland Rear stand on their official X account [26 September] with the club set to mark their 125th anniversary at the home ground with a full-capacity Ibrox.
Boyd reacted to the news live on Sky Sports [26 September] and took a jibe at the Hibs fans who had previously blasted the club for their lack of clarity on whether the away supporters will be allocated seats for the match.
He said: “From Rangers’ point of view, they’re back home in front of a full stadium. And maybe the Hibs fans will stop moaning – they can get tickets now.”
Rangers need to reward a full Ibrox with three points against Hibs
After a dreadful start to the season in which Rangers were eliminated from the Champions League at the qualifying stage and lost the first Old Firm derby of the year 3-0, the supporters finally have some good news to celebrate.
Hampden Park has served its purpose as a makeshift home ground for the Light Blues but the return of the world-renowned Ibrox atmosphere is exactly what the side needs to lift themselves out of the early season rut.
The psychological edge that inflicts the opposition before a ball has been kicked has returned. Philippe Clement will do well to harness the energy of Ibrox to revitalise their SPFL fortunes and embark on a successful Europa League campaign.
Rangers have received a boost ahead of the clash as Martin Boyle and Joe Newell are doubts to feature for the visitors [Edinburgh News, 26 September] and should be expected to claim the three points against David Gray’s side.
However, the players cannot become overwhelmed with the occasion and must focus on the task at hand. The Gers already face a monumental task to bridge the five-point gap to Celtic and any more points lost will all but end their title prospects this season.
