'Strange' - Pundit baffled by what Gilligan said about Rangers new CEO search

Craig Moore has been left baffled by John Gilligan’s “strange” admission that Rangers are set to reignite their search for a new CEO.

The Light Blues’ interim chairman held a press conference on Monday where he revealed that the Light Blues are set to pick up their search for James Bisgrove’s replacement at Ibrox [Go Radio, 24 September].

Although Go Radio pundit Moore believes the Gers must get a new CEO through the door soon, he has been left confused by the Light Blues’ decision to park their search for Bisgrove’s replacement.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show (23 September, 1:04:10) he said: “That’s good to hear that he likes decent people.

“The problem is Paul, one of the things that comes up there is that they can pick up again in terms of that search for a CEO.

“Why did they stop? He [John Bennett] was only an interim, he wasn’t meant to be back on full-time initially when he came back into play.

“We know that there were discussions and talk around Jim Gillespie to become CEO. It just seems strange that they’ll pick up on that again. I would have thought that would have been an ongoing thing.”

Are Rangers close to a new CEO appointment at Ibrox after James Bisgrove’s exit?

Even with John Bennett’s surprise exit a matter of weeks ago, most Rangers fans would have expected the other decision-makers at Ibrox to continue the search for Bisgrove’s successor after a summer of uncertainty.

No club, particularly one Rangers’ size, should be operating without a CEO or a full-time chairman for this stretch of time. Not only has it caused a mess off of the field, but it has also increased the pressure on Philippe Clement in the dugout.

The Light Blues boss has had to field and answer questions that really should be left to those above him in Glasgow. While the interim appointment of Gilligan is a solution, it is only a temporary one.

Hopefully, the recruitment process moves quickly at Ibrox so that Bisgrove’s replacement is in position long before the January transfer window rolls around again.

It would be awful if the Light Blues entered another window with no structure in and around their club.

In other Rangers news, Clement has been lauded for a recent James Tavernier decision at Ibrox this season
