Alasdair Lamont believes one of the main problems Rangers are facing this season is that every game looks like a “potential stumbling block”.
The Gers are currently third in the Scottish Premiership and are set to face Kilmarnock in their next Scottish Premiership game on 4 December.
Writing for the BBC Sport website (4 December), BBC journalist Lamont thinks it is “inconceivable” the title is not already beyond he Gers given they trail great rivals Celtic by 11 points.
“But barring a catastrophic second half of the season for Celtic, it already feels inconceivable the title is not beyond his Rangers side,” he wrote.
“For Clement now, it is simply a case of trying to eat into their great rivals’ 11-point lead if at all possible while trying to pursue a better standard of performance and greater level of consistency to ensure that Aberdeen, at least, are overtaken.
“Conceivably that deficit could be down to four points by close of play on Wednesday, if Rangers can take care of business at home to Kilmarnock and the Dons lose at home in the top-of-the-table battle.
“Small victories must be taken when offered and, given how the table looked only a few weeks ago, that would be one.
“The difficulty these days for Rangers is that every fixture looks like a potential stumbling block. Killie have already given them a bloody nose at Rugby Park and will be keen to do so again”.
Philippe Clement needs to get his Rangers team back on track
Philippe Clement has rightly been under some intense scrutiny this season due to Rangers’ poor domestic performance.
While their trips around Europe have more often than not ended in joy with their performances in the Scottish League Cup also following a similar pattern, it’s their league form that fans are most annoyed about.
At the start of the season, fans and pundits alike likely expected the Gers to put up a decent challenge for the title and perhaps even take it down to the wire but in reality, things couldn’t have been any more different.
If they can somehow manage to bring their form from the Europa League to the Scottish Premiership, questions would stop being asked and the Ibrox outfit could actually scrape their way back into the race.
However, if things stay as they are, it’ll likely be curtains for the Belgian as soon as Patrick Stewart takes up his role as CEO on 16 December.
