'Stupid' - Jamie O'Hara cannot believe what was said about Everton incident v Newcastle

Jamie O’Hara was stunned after hearing Dermot Gallagher suggesting Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s penalty call for Everton against Newcastle United was a “split decision”.

The Toffees striker tangled with Magpies defender Dan Burn inside the penalty area as the teams played out a goalless draw at Goodison Park on Saturday 5 October.

Despite being brought down in the box, Calvert-Lewin’s claims were waved away by referee Craig Dawson and was backed up following a VAR review at Stockley Park.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (7 October, 11:37pm), Gallagher said: “I thought it was a penalty at the time but I don’t think it’s one now. That’s what I’ve been trying to explain.

“I’ve heard lots of people agree with both sides. Looking at the votes, it’s a real split decision.”

O’Hara simply replied: “Split decision? Stupid.”

Jamie O’Hara speaks for all Everton fans over Newcastle United controversy

O’Hara has voiced exactly how most Everton fans feel about the explanations for why they were not awarded a penalty for Burn’s challenge on Calvert-Lewin.

It looks like the most blatant wrong decision from the most recent weekend of football, though fans at Goodison Park are hardly surprised due to their problems with the Premier League.

Fans can have absolutely no quarrels with the decision to award a penalty to Eddie Howe’s men after James Tarkowski dragged Sandro Tonali to the floor. They are just asking for consistency.

Toffees fans often feel they draw the short straw when it comes to refereeing decisions, and after moments like Calvert-Lewin’s call being waved away, there is no great surprise as to why.

This argument is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, with fans still calling into radio stations and debating the controversial moment on social media or amongst friends, but the Premier League will feel the correct call has been made.

In other Everton news, Chris Sutton hit out at what a Toffees fan said about Sean Dyche live on air, “cloud cuckoo land”.
