Sutton rages over what he’s heard about Postecoglou sack at Tottenham

Chris Sutton was quick to defend Ange Postecoglou after it was suggested he was a manager under pressure at Tottenham.

Spurs have had a fairly inconsistent start to the season which has led to some discussions surrounding Postecoglou’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, their triumphant 4-0 win against Manchester City at the weekend showed exactly what level of quality they can deliver as a side.

Sutton has no time for these comments though as when discussing a great result “under pressure”, he said on the BBC Football Daily podcast: “What do you mean under pressure? Under pressure for what? The sack?

“It’s rubbish. Nonsense. Absolute rubbish.

“So hang on a minute. This is a Tottenham team who haven’t delivered a trophy for however many years and all of a sudden, Postecoglou is under all this extreme pressure to deliver a trophy.

“Under pressure sounds like he is a step or two away from the sack. That is absolute nonsense.”

Pressure for Postecoglou at Tottenham?

Although Tottenham haven’t had an awful start to the season, there has been plenty of discussion surrounding the boss’ future and the pressure he is under.

This probably comes from the frustration of the supporters over a lack of consistency rather than being pinned on specific results or performances.

The Australian has got his side playing some good football which fans will enjoy watching but the task is to always come away with the right results and the points.

After the club’s terrific result against Manchester City, it’s unlikely that there will be too many calling for a managerial change at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but now Spurs have shown they can put in those dominant performances against good sides, they have to progress and show that on a regular basis.

You can understand Sutton’s comments, there seems to be plenty of expectations on Postecoglou at the club but because he is a manager that people back to deliver success, he has to live up to this and prove that’s the case.
