Tam McManus tells Patrick Stewart to make Clement decision in new 'Brownie points' verdict

Tam McManus believes Patrick Stewart can earn early “brownie points” with Rangers fans by sacking Philippe Clement.

The new CEO is set to begin his role on 16 December [Official website], one day after the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic, with Europa League games against Nice and Tottenham in between.

Clement is under immense pressure and has been down for a while, and McManus believes his job will be on the line once the hierarchy appointments take charge.

Speaking via the PLZ Soccer Show [25 November], McManus said: “For me, it’s set up for Patrick Stewart and the new chairman to come in and they mean business. Straight away they’ll get brownie points from the supporters.

“I don’t think Rangers will beat Tottenham or Celtic – and the clamour [for Clement to be sacked] will be even bigger than it is now. I think they come in and go, ‘Clean start, clean slate’ and endear themselves to the Rangers fans straight away by getting a new manager.”

Rangers to sack Philippe Clement after Celtic clash?

If the Gers are set to sack the manager after the Scottish League Cup clash with the Hoops, Clement likely has six games to save his job, but it may be too little too late now.

Supporters have been desperate for a change of manager, with Derek McInnes being mooted with a move to Ibrox, and they may finally get their wish with the new arrivals in the boardroom.

Stewart will certainly want to make a good first impression with the fans upon his arrival at Ibrox and sacking Clement will likely make him a favourable figure in his first week in the job.

While just one or two appointments are unlikely to change the club’s fortunes, it is definitely a step in the right direction and is a positive sign for supporters.

It remains to be seen if Clement will remain in his job until the new appointments arrive, given the difficulty of the upcoming games, so it is something to keep an eye on over the coming weeks.

In other Rangers news, the Gers must act quickly after a player’s recent admission over his Ibrox future.
