'They are huge': Darren Bent insists London-based PL manager wouldn't take 'bigger club' Everton job

There has been huge pressure on Sean Dyche at Everton this season.

When you are a club the size of Everton and you find yourself struggling like they have done for years and years now, then the emotion around the place is going to be dark and overreactive.

Many managers – from Frank Lampard to Marco Silva – have tried to plug the hole, lift the club from its gloom and push the team into an ambitious pathway once again.

In truth, a manager like Dyche probably wouldn’t be in charge of Everton if they were competing where they should be and that’s higher up the league.

Everton will be moving into their new stadium soon and fans are hoping it’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

Added to that, Everton could be under new ownership pretty soon and you know what that means for the manager in the dugout.

Usually, it signals, whether straight away or down the line, that the new people in the boardroom want to get in their own man.

Darren Bent was discussing the work being done by Thomas Frank at Brentford and how he is ready for that step up.

Frank has been linked with the Manchester United job and Bent agreed that he deserves to manage a ‘top-eight’ side, but he didn’t include the Toffees.

Whilst the former Premier League striker acknowledges that Everton are bigger than Brentford, he feels Frank wouldn’t leave for that type of job right now, as he told talkSPORT.

Thomas Frank wouldn’t leave Brentford to take the Everton manager’s job

“He has been there and he has been incredible,” said Bent. “He gets linked to certain jobs here and there. But he has been loyal to them – we talk about clubs coming out of the Championship and struggling. His first season, they finished 13th and ninth. That is remarkable.

“I am a big fan of his. I don’t think it’s disrespectful for him to say ‘we don’t know what the future brings, but at some point, I would like to go to the next level’. If you are honest, and Brentford fans will be honest about this, they are a smaller club compared to most of the Premier League and that’s a fact.

“If a club comes in for Thomas Frank. I think he should explore it. Certainly if one of the top eight clubs come in for him. I am surprised he hasn’t been linked to some of them. They (Nottingham Forest) are bigger than Brentford – but these are not the types of clubs he would leave Brentford for. Even Everton are having a bit of a stink, at the minute. It depends (if Frank leaves for Everton). Currently, as it sits now, Brentford are 11th and Everton are 16th. If the season finished now, and Everton came in for Thomas Frank, sitting where they are, he isn’t going to Everton. He’s not. Everton are a huge club and they are underachieving, massively. I think if a top-eight club comes in for him, then I think yes.”

Thomas Frank would do incredible at Everton

Yes, Everton have found themselves in situations where they don’t want to be in recent years, but they are still one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

It’s about what the team can do down the line, and if someone gets that club going again, then the rewards will be remarkable.

Just look at Aston Villa’s rise under Unai Emery and how they are now playing in the Champions League.

With the right people, things can change in an instant and Villa are proof for Everton that it can happen, so they should still believe.
