'They're Fed Up' - Keith Wyness: Leicester rivals will be furious after '£100m' twist

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Leicester City’s rivals will be “fed up” after the Premier League’s latest Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) breach appeal.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed legal costs for league chiefs could spiral to “£100million”, which will anger top-flight clubs.

Football Insider revealed in a new twist last week (18 October) that Leicester are facing more points deduction uncertainty – with the Premier League appearing to have appealed against the latest decision in their PSR case.

In what has been widely described as a loophole, the Foxes avoided punishment by arguing they were no longer a Premier League club when they submitted their accounts on 30 June 2023 – following their relegation to the Championship.

They were charged with a breach of PSR for the 2022-23 season in March after reporting losses of £89.7million for that year alone.

Wyness claimed there has been no outcry from Premier League sides or fans for an appeal.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s more cost, and the other clubs are going to get pretty fed up with this legal bill soon.

“I’d love to be a fly on the wall at the meetings and hear what the clubs are thinking about the legal costs.

“I think there was a budget of £5-10million – but we’re going to be looking at something like £100million in legal costs pretty soon.

“It’s not as big as Man City, but it’s a cost – and I don’t think there was a big outcry from the clubs or fans to go and appeal this.

“People just saw it as a loophole which Leicester were lucky enough to exploit.

“But an appeal, it just doesn’t seem right.”
