Rangers fans started to turn on Philippe Clement’s side as they chased a goal in their 1-1 draw against Dundee United on Saturday, Kris Boyd has said.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (23 November, 5:18pm), Boyd assessed the mood inside Ibrox as the Gers looked for a second-half equaliser, having gone 1-0 down to Sam Dalby’s opener before the break.
Vaclav Ceny and half-time substitute Danilo’s spurned chances were both commented on by Boyd, but the pair eventually combined in the 66th minute for Cerny to score and rescue a point for Clement’s side.
Boyd said: “Rangers are pushing, trying to get this equaliser. They’re going to need it pretty quickly because the fans are starting to turn here – they’ve had enough.”
Ibrox faithful ready for huge changes at Rangers
While Cerny’s goal sealed a point, it won’t have done much to ease an increasingly frustrated Ibrox crowd.
The mood in Govan towards Clement, the club’s board and a selection of out-of-form players has soured significantly in recent weeks, and that’s something the opposition are looking to play on.
Boos ringing out across Ibrox for managerial decisions and boardroom incompetence is nothing new, but the players will now also be feeling the pressure to get the crowd off their backs.
Cerny popping up to score another crucial Premiership goal has provided Clement with salvation in the form of a point for the time being, but pressure on the Belgian will only continue to mount.
Boos lead to banners, and banners lead to protests – and with further off-field churn expected in the coming weeks, it remains to be seen just how long Gers fans will stand for the current situation.
In other Rangers news, one Ibrox regular has been backed to succeed James Tavernier as Gers captain after his recent displays.
