Barry Ferguson has suggested that Rangers could put the disappointment of their poor transfer business behind them with Hamza Igamane’s sale.
The pundit is not surprised to see the striker linked with a move away from Ibrox – with Everton among those interested in signing him [TBR Football], having been impressed by his performances in recent weeks.
He believes the Morocco Under-23s international should continue his development with the Gers for the time being, but can see the Glasgow giants making a “hefty profit” from his sale, contrary to what they have done in the past.
“Since he’s found a way into the starting XI, he has certainly impressed me, he has scored goals”, Ferguson said on The Go Radio Football Show (20 December).
“Again, I thought it was another good performance from him, Sunday’s cup final.
“If it continues like this, this is the model that Rangers want to use, bring somebody in for, I think it was, a couple of million pounds, hope they improve him as a player and obviously they would like to make a hefty profit.
“But, at this moment in time, I just think it’s important for the young man to get games of football under his belt and hopefully, in time, Rangers can make a few quids off him.”
Barry Ferguson is right, Hamza Igamane should stay at Rangers
The Light Blues forked out around £1.5million to sign Igamane from FAR Rabat in the summer [The Scottish Sun].
He had to bide his time to get a consistent run of games in Philippe Clement’s side, with the Belgian tactician sticking with Cyriel Dessers until recently.
However, the 22-year-old grabbed his chance with both hands, bagging five goals and two assists in the Gers’ last six games across all competitions.
It would not be a surprise if the transfer links are a result of Igamane’s agent embarking on a mission to drive his value up, especially with the January transfer window around the corner.
Nevertheless, he should listen to Ferguson and stay at Ibrox for the time being.
While a move to the Premier League is tempting, it could stagnate the youngster’s development as a player due to the competition at teams like Everton.
It would be in the best of Igamane’s interests to continue leading the line for Clement’s side, having only joined them in the summer.
In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have sealed a behind-the-scenes hire of a person who has previously worked at Manchester United.
