There are three reasons why Real Madrid are so keen to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold after they reportedly ‘made contact’ with the Liverpool star’s camp.

Alexander-Arnold is among Liverpool’s most important players and one of the first names on the teamsheet but the Reds face a battle to keep him at Anfield.

That’s because Carlo Ancelotti’s side have held ‘several’ discussions with Alexander-Arnold’s entourage over a transfer, according to Spanish outlet Relevo.

But why do the La Liga champions want to sign Alexander-Arnold so badly? Read on to find out…

Three reasons why Real Madrid want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool

1. His Liverpool deal expires in the summer of 2025

The first reason why Real Madrid are keen on Alexander-Arnold is that he is out of contract in the summer of 2025 and they believe they can strike a good deal.

According to Relevo, it is ‘common practice’ for the Spanish giants to target top players approaching the end of their current deals.

The Spanish outlet adds that Alexander-Arnold has not responded to Liverpool’s latest offer of a contract extension and that his future is very much ‘open’.

    2. Ideal heir to Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez

Real Madrid are convinced it’s the ‘ideal time’ to bring in Alexander-Arnold with current stars Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez not getting any younger.

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has plenty of years left at his peak and could get even better in comparison to Carvajal, 32, and Vazquez, 33, who are slightly older.

Real Madrid would ideally like the Englishman – who they also admire for his versatility – to ‘gradually take over’ from Carvajal, Relevo have reported.

    3. His budding friendship with Jude Bellingham

The third reason is that Alexander-Arnold is extremely close with Real Madrid’s current English superstar Jude Bellingham.

It was rumoured that Alexander-Arnold previously tried to convince his England international teammate to join Liverpool instead of Real Madrid – but they could now link up in the Spanish capital instead.

Bellingham hailed Alexander-Arnold after England beat Serbia at Euro 2024 and said: ‘[He] makes it so easy for me because he can control the game so well defensively in that position.

‘I know people talk a lot of rubbish but he’s so aggressive with that back to goal pressure and it really helped me as well because it meant I got a breather when he went out.

‘I think we understand each other well with the ball, he wants to play positive all the time, he wants to play forward all the time.’
