Tottenham striker Timo Werner put in a performance against Rangers so bad it was “honking”, according to Tam McManus.
Rangers hosted Spurs in the Europa League on Thursday (12 December), and Werner struggled to make an impact in a dismal first half before being replaced by goalscorer Dejan Kulusevski at the break.
The German international has primarily been deployed as a left-winger during his time in North London. However, he has scored just one goal this season.
Following another underwhelming performance, former Scottish international Tam McManus shared his thoughts on X, describing his showing as “honking”.
Responding to a tweet jokingly asking, “Timo Werner won a competition to play tonight?” McManus added that Spurs should “hook surely at HT”, which Ange Postecoglou duly did.

Postecoglou’s return to Ibrox was one to forget, as his team weren’t able to come away with a victory.
Tottenham’s attack has struggled to make an impact, frustrating both fans and players.
James Maddison has yet to fully prove himself to the manager, while £65million signing Dominic Solanke [Sky Sports] has only managed five Premier League goals this season.
The Englishman’s performances have prompted some fans to suggest he’s not good enough. With a fanbase used to Harry Kane over the years, that is probably not surprising, but Werner has been even more underwhelming.
The former Chelsea man, who joined on a six-month loan in January before extending his stay over the summer [BBC Sport], has already played more this season than last.
However, with just one goal in 18 appearances, questions remain over his future. If performances don’t improve, Tottenham’s hierarchy might send him back during the January transfer window.
A winger is reportedly a priority signing, and with Wilson Odobert already added, the forward could return to Leipzig in 2025.
The Lilywhites sit 11th in the Premier League heading into a busy festive period. Following the draw to Rangers, they are now 9th in the Europa League table.
