'Too easily robbed of possession': Nation's media reacts to £250k-a-week Arsenal star's display for his country last night

Arsenal star Declan Rice was in action for England in their Nations League meeting with Finland on Tuesday night.

The Gunners midfielder played the full 90 minutes as the Three Lions ran out 2-0 winners over the Finns at Wembley.

Rice was hoping for more of the same after dazzling in England’s 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at the weekend.

The Arsenal powerhouse scored the opening goal for Lee Carsley’s side en route to a convincing victory in Dublin.

Rice ended up delivering a solid, if unspectacular, display for England as they overcame Finland and got themselves another clean sheet.

Here is what English media outlets said about the Gunners man’s performance on a night in which Harry Kane marked his 100th England appearance with a brace.

Sixes all round for Arsenal ace Declan Rice

The Evening Standard gave Rice a 6 out of 10 for his efforts against Finland.

‘As in Dublin on Saturday, given licence to get forward,’ they wrote.

‘Combined nicely with Saka and Alexander-Arnold in first-half before fading. Robbed in own half for Keskinen chance.’

Likewise, Metro went with a 6 out of 10 for the Arsenal man, and they also mentioned the shaky moment he had.

‘Too easily robbed of possession which nearly led to a Finland goal,’ they wrote.

‘Very quiet compared to his outstanding performance against Ireland but was still very solid.’

The Independent also went with a 6 for Rice, saying: ‘Offered up a horrendous air kick in the early stages but otherwise a solid if unspectacular performance by the midfielder.’

Likewise, 90Min have gone with a 6 out of 10, writing: ‘Perhaps a little too focused on attacking, leaving his defenders exposed before the half-time whistle. More stable in the second half.’

Finally, Goal.com complete a series of 6s for Rice, adding: ‘Not quite as dominant as against Ireland and a stray pass led a dangerous Finland breakaway. But otherwise good.’

What next for Rice?

Rice will sadly miss the North London derby due to the controversial second booking he received against Brighton.

The £250,000-a-week ace (Salarysport) can next play for Arsenal on Thursday 19 September in their Champions League opening fixture against Atalanta.
