'Too expensive': Fabrizio Romano suggests Arsenal will not be able to sign £86m player this summer

Things have gone quiet on the striker front for Arsenal, but the reality is that the Gunners could still do with a new number nine.
Indeed, Arsenal still don’t have that lethal striker to lead their line, and while Mikel Arteta’s side are still a quality outfit, those natural goalscorers are often the difference in these title races.
Arsenal have, of course, been linked with plenty of strikers during the summer transfer window.
Alexander Isak was said to be an option at one point, while Viktor Gyokeres has also been linked to Arsenal.
However, speaking to Men in Blazers, Fabrizio Romano has played down the idea of Gyokeres joining Arsenal, claiming that the Swedish striker is simply too expensive for Arsenal this summer.
Viktor Gyokeres too expensive for Arsenal
Romano stated that he doesn’t think Gyokeres will join the Gunners.
“Then if there are more outgoings there are some possibilities that Arsenal could add another offensive player. I don’t think it will be an expensive player like Viktor Gyokeres. I think this is too expensive, but maybe a new winger, a different type of player who can provide fresh energy behind Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
What Mikel Arteta has said about making a big signing
Romano says that Gyokeres is too expensive for Arsenal, and it has to be said that this deal does look unlikely.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta has admitted that a big-money signing at this sort of level is unlikely.
“Last season, we saw a huge investment in Declan Rice, a huge transfer fee. If a special player came on the market, are Arsenal able to go to that level again this summer?” Arteta was asked.
The Arsenal manager then replied: “We don’t expect to do anything like that at this moment, that’s the reality.”
With Gyokeres said to be valued at £86m, it’s fair to say that Arsenal’s budget may not stretch far enough to sign the Sporting striker.
