Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed he is “hearing rumours of player unrest” at West Ham after their poor start.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the confidence in manager Julen Lopetegui “isn’t quite there as it should be”.

West Ham were dumped out of the League Cup with a 5-1 away defeat at Liverpool on Wednesday (25 September) to compound a below-par start to the 2024-25 campaign.

The Irons sit 14th in the Premier League with four points after five games and suffered a chastening 3-0 defeat at home against rivals Chelsea in their last league clash.

Lopetegui was backed heavily with around £120million of new signings in the summer window after succeeding David Moyes.

Nevertheless, West Ham fans are convinced the Spaniard will be “sacked by Christmas” after their team’s performance at Anfield.

West Ham ‘player unrest’ brewing after poor start, says Wyness

Wyness claimed some supporters may wish Moyes was still the manager at the London Stadium.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s still early days.

“But I have a feeling there is a bit of a rot setting in at West Ham, and the confidence for Lopetegui isn’t quite there as it should be.

“I’m already hearing rumours of player unrest in the squad.

“It’s not a good sign.

“If the fans turn against them in that big cavernous London Stadium, then it won’t be good.

“They might be thinking ‘I wish we hadn’t gotten rid of Moyes’. You’ve got to be careful of what you wish for.”

In other news, Tim Steidten “in the firing line” as West Ham board question signings.
