Bryan King has blasted Pedro Porro’s reaction to a challenge from Jurrien Timber as Tottenham were beaten 1-0 by Arsenal on Sunday (15 September).

The ex-Spurs scout believes the Spanaird’s reaction to the challenge was over the top and created a “totally unnecessary” situation.

Timber’s challenge on Porro sparked a brawl midway through the first half, resulting in bookings for the Arsenal defender and Guglielmo Vicario.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think that situation helped the home side in their North London derby defeat.

“We had a silly little period where Porro went down under a challenge from Timber,” King said.

“It wasn’t as bad as he made it look. However, that led to a situation where Vicario suddenly gets involved and picks up a yellow card.

“That was totally unnecessary, it wasn’t a leg-breaking tackle. It is hard enough playing and getting the team going without those silly little incidents.

“They always say if it is a serious injury you wouldn’t move, Porro didn’t keep still for about three or four minutes.

“Timber might have caught him slightly. However, it didn’t deserve the reaction we saw from him, you would have thought he had broken his ankle.

“Vicario should have never been involved in that either, what is he doing looking for trouble?

“Unnecessary, worry about your football and team performance, those things aren’t going to help.”

Pedro Porro sparks brawl as Tottenham lose to Arsenal

Seven cards were dished out in the first half at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the most of any first half in Premier League history.

However, that was quite surprising considering the match didn’t necessarily feel that aggressive.

The Porro-Timber incident was perhaps the only real flashpoint of a rather uneventful opening 45 minutes.

However, Postecoglou is unlikely to be too concerned by that incident. Instead, the Australian will be more concerned by his side’s poor start to the season.

It is now four points from 12 for Tottenham. Therefore, a response will be needed when the North London side host Brentford on Saturday (21 September).
