'Wouldn’t go near him' - Wenham rips into Tottenham-linked ace with medical booked elsewhere

John Wenham has ripped into Tottenham-linked midfielder Adrien Rabiot as he closes in on a move to Marseille.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has no interest in the North London club signing the 29-year-old.

As previously reported by TBR Football (8 September), Rabiot, who is a free agent, made himself available to both Tottenham and Arsenal.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported via X (16 September) that Marseille have booked a medical and travel for the French midfielder, who is set to sign a two-year deal with the club.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think signing Rabiot would have been the right move for Spurs.

“For me, this would be an absolute no,” Wenham said.

“His ability isn’t that high, and he comes with a lot of baggage. Therefore, I think it would be a real step in the wrong direction to pander to his demands, as well as the demands of the entourage of people that he comes with.

“We’ve done well clearing out a lot of the dead wood this summer. As a result, Rabiot is not a player I’d be going anywhere near whatsoever, even on a free transfer with low-wage demands.

“As I said, I wouldn’t go near him. I just think he’s not the direction we want to go in”

Ange Postecoglou is unlikely to lose too much sleep over missing out on Rabiot.

Spurs already have plenty of options in midfield. Therefore, the last thing they needed was a high-profile player who was unlikely to accept sitting on the bench.

While Rabiot offered himself to Tottenham, it remains to be seen whether the North London club were at all interested.

However, that is irrelevant now, with the Frenchman closing in on a move to Marseille.
