Archie Gray is set to be the target of several bids from English sides looking to loan him from Tottenham in January, according to GiveMeSport.
The online outlet reported via sources on 31 October that Spurs are anticipating January inquiries from Premier League and Championship sides over Gray’s availability, having struggled for minutes in North London.
Gray arrived from Leeds United for £40million in the summer transfer window, but has so far made just nine appearances, failing to start a single match in the Premier League for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Key figures at Spurs are weighing up whether to allow the 18-year-old midfielder to depart on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with clubs further afield having also registered their interest [Mucho Deporte, 23 October].
Archie Gray will be keen to fight for first-team Tottenham place
Having arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to much fanfare in July, a lot was expected of 18-year-old Gray having been a regular feature at right-back and in midfield at Elland Road last season.
Gray has played from the off in all five of Spurs’ EFL Cup and Europa League matches respectively so far this season, but just 34 Premier League minutes off the bench is much less than had been expected [Soccerway].
Having spent £40m on an 18-year-old from the Championship a matter of months ago, Spurs clearly see Gray as a long-term prospect, but establishing a regular first-team place still looks a long way off.
Dejan Kulusevski’s move into Postecoglou’s three-man midfield has been a bona-fide success this season, further limiting Gray’s chances of breaking through in his preferred position.
The Lilywhites may not want to be seen as discarding Gray in January by keeping him in the fold, but with the teenager hungry for minutes, a short-term switch could be the best move for all parties.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou has made his final decision on the permanent future of one misfiring Lilywhite forward.
