Tottenham can’t continue as Graeme Souness moots player unrest in Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou risks losing the Tottenham dressing room if current trends continue under the Australian, Graeme Souness has said.

Spurs are currently sitting 10th in the Premier League after 11 matches, having headed into the international break after back-to-back defeats to Galatasaray in the Europa League and Ipswich Town.

The pressure has risen on the manager after recent losses at Hotspur Way, and while Souness does not believe that he has lost the faith of players yet, it could be a possibility if nothing changes.

Writing in his Daily Mail article [23 November] he said: “When you’re conceding goals too easily, like Spurs have started to do, the confidence drains out of the team very quickly.

“That is when the old chestnut comes along of players losing faith in the manager and of him losing the dressing room. Ange is not there yet, but they can’t continue like they are, one step forward and two steps back.”

Tottenham pressure continues to grow on Ange Postecoglou

Postecoglou really had nowhere to hide after his side let a two-goal lead over Brighton slip last month, but they secured impressive wins over Manchester City, Aston Villa and West Ham United since.

However, the embarrassing losses to Crystal Palace and Ipswich have been the most highlighted matches at Hotspur Way, and it is easy to see why when fans get their hopes up before slipping up once again.

The players need to take part of the blame too, though it ultimately falls on the man who works out the tactics, puts together the starting lineup and leads the team to these wins or defeats.

It seems highly unlikely that Daniel Levy would make the tough decision to sack Postecoglou, given it is only his second season in the Premier League, but fans are beginning to become restless.

While Spurs are halfway down the Premier League table, only three points are separating them from Chelsea in third position, so their situation could be far worse right now.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been handed a boost as Angel Gomes makes his 2025 transfer wish clear to Lille.
